Monday Night Take Out

red tailed hawk in a treeThe upstairs neighbor

Said “Take out, please.”

It wasn’t pizza or Chinese.

He made no fuss

He did not squawk

The silent, deadly red tailed hawk

Straight he swooped

No jinkin’ or bobbin’

Directly for the his target, robin.

He toyed with his food

Like a cat with a mouse

In the backyard of my house.

Then off he flew

Without a pause

The robin clutched within his claws.

Another bird prey

For this captor

To feed the hunger of a raptor.
