Word Cousins

Merriam-Webster has come up with a clever quiz to see how well you know the orginations of many word pairs.  Some of these word pair seemed more obvious to me than others.  How well did you do?

  1. I didn’t know it was a timed quiz, so I missed two simply by taking too long to click the right answer. Still, 4300 isn’t bad. It’s kind of a fun quiz. The other ones on that site look interesting too.

      1. Well, to be honest, I missed the first one because I hadn’t noticed that it was a timed quiz. Then I got flustered because I thought maybe I had clicked something by mistake, so I missed the next one too. Then the lights went on and I paid attention. 🙂 Unless time is a relevant variable, it’s annoying to run a quiz like that. (grump, grump)

  2. I love the Merriam Webster Word of the Day! I signed up for the daily emails about 8 months ago and I save them all in a folder. I figure, I’ll go back in a year and see how many I remember. Or, I’ll delete them. But still. Yay Words! 🙂

  3. Well I have Latin and Greek, and I did literature in my first degree, only got three! I notice it is a tough one as it doesn’t allow for an intuitive approach, so even guessing is out. Good fun though and I learned a few things.
