This is a powerful poem about how many Westerners (both Europeans and Americans) view Asian women. I have heard many men who were on West Pac cruises or stationed in Korea or Japan or Vietnam or the Philippines use some of these terms and have read them in many novels. We are monumentally blind to the cruelty we inflict in the name of humor. Poem: Slavery by any other name is still Slavery
You are so right, Pat. More than once I’ve stared at a person, a “joker” when they remarked that I wasn’t laughing, or must not get the joke. My response is “Jokes are funny.” The inevitable bullying reply comes back when I say that. Then I walk away in disgust. As a culture we really need to reconsider what we think is funny, what we think is cool, and what we respect. Okay… I’ll get off my soapbox. Hugs!

Thanks for responding so quickly and so forcefully. A bow of respect, my magically gifted friend.
