Balancing Principles and Power

His religion was the second most important thing in his life.
He had subordinated many of his beliefs to become the second most powerful man.

Now the top man was stricken, with an outcome not yet known.

Did he have enough religion left to pray for the stricken man or would his desire to be in charge rise to the top again?
