From the American Library Association:
The theme for National Library Week (April 4-10, 2021), “Welcome to Your Library,” promotes the idea that libraries extend far beyond the four walls of a building – and that everyone is welcome to use their services. During the pandemic libraries have been going above and beyond to adapt to our changing world by expanding their resources and continuing to meet the needs of their users. Whether people visit in person or virtually, libraries offer opportunities for everyone to explore new worlds and become their best selves through access to technology, multimedia content, and educational programs.
Almost every day this week celebrates some aspect of libraries and the people who work in them.
What is your favorite thing to do in a library? Has your library reopened? Have you used your library during the Pandemic?
Nice! I feel like I should know this as a library student now, but I didn’t until you mentioned. The library that I worked of is still operating under restrictions and limited hours (not a bad thing, considering Canada’s vaccination progress), but I’ll be back at work in May!

Moya, that is great news. Hope you like going to work in the library. How are your classes coming? Are they all online?

Thank you! Yes, classes are all online. It’s certainly a strange start to a program like this, but does save me a significant commute. I’m liking the courses, but it can be a bit overwhelming sometimes, since most of my classmates are older and much more experienced in the field than me!

Although as a child I was a weekly visitor to Wimbledon Public Library, I now have my own. Here is one of my posts recording the conversion of our garage: https://derrickjknight.com/2014/05/05/hours-in-a-library/

I read the link, Derrick, and want to reblog the post–it is filled with such interesting info and I adore the picture of the three books entitled “Hours in a Library.” Happy Easter.

Back in the day, when I was in university, the library was the place to research and perhaps even meet friends…I have fond memories of libraries and loving books, I loved them but it’s been decades since I’ve stepped into one. I thought they had disappeared with the advent of the Internet…

Francisco, you disappoint me. I would have expected more sense from a writer, composer, and artist. It is not all on the Internet and it is not all free. Thanks for responding y Feliz Pasqua. And I am very happy that you commented and enjoyed libraries when you were a student.

Cool, Andrea. I didn’t know that. Thanks. I love libraries and can’t imagine having a better (for me) profession.

So much goes on at the library besides taking books out and doing research! Kids have to told about all it all!!

You are a wise man, GP. Maybe you were a librarian in a previous lifetime. Happy Easter, my friend.
