Windswept Heights

Up here on the windswept height
Leaves jump off and just take flight
Soaring like witches on Halloween night.

Swirling and twirling across the fall sky
Until the breezes slow down and die
Then tumbling to the Earth where they lie

Until swept afar or turned into decay
While they've sat and composted away.

  1. Thanks, Sam. Glad you liked it. I was up on Skyline Drive this week (which runs along the spine of some of the Blue Ridge Mountains). The cold blustery day inspired the poem.
