My personal opinion is that God wants us to believe in Him. Most of us have different views on what that means so there are different paths to the same goal, belief in God.
Scary thought, Mouse. A college student where I worked decades ago, said she had a small shooting star tattooed on her breast. One of her co-workers joked that in about 20 years, it would be a falling star.

I think when you enlist or get your commission, you state what your religious preference is and that may be used for what is put on your tombstone.
