Well, although as a Theatre student at University I had to read, and enjoy Shakespeare, I did not know these phrases were of common usage in US. Interesting Pat.
Very interesting post and phrases, one of which (“Lie low”) has been taken to excess by none other than Donald Trump, who lies low, down, sideways, and every other way. This calls to mind “Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive,” which sounds Shakespearean, but was actually authored by Sir Walter Scott.
Brilliant. I’ve always enjoyed Shakespeare. Sharing this kind of information – especially to second level students who tend to despise learning anything remotely related to the man – is a great way to illustrate how contemporary Shakespeare was. Thanks.

It just goes to show that “All the world’s a stage” Pat. I never realised how many phrases are attributed to the Bard.
